OBEY the Homies

Here are a few (non OBEY) categories and some OBEY endorsed recommendations

  • Venue Of the Year - Brick Box Brewery - Formally known as Thunder Canyon Brewery.
  • Recording Studio of the Year - SOL Studios - This is where my Track "Different Route" was recorded, and where I host a weekly open mic.
  • Hip Hop Label of the Year - Hitmovrz is the home of longtime collaborator Rob $parks, and home to Breadman P
  • Producer of the Year - joHnny Arson - He deserves his flowers, he recently produces JoHnny & Friends, a dope album that features some super talented Hip Hop artists, including Dan,OBEY! on "Eye in the Sky"
  • Photographer of the Year - Andera Moon, a huge contributor to the Tucson Hip Hop scene,  she photographs the Brick Box Open mic and also photographed Dan,OBEY! on the cover of his latest project, "Not Yet Obey"
  • Engineer of the Year - I have two friends in this category, Diamante & Real Trnth. Trnth is also a huge collaborator with Dan,OBEY through Crown Complex, their Hip Hop group.
  • DJ of the Year - This one is difficult, there are so many friends and collaborators here. You can't go wrong with DJ Looney, DJ Enzym3, DJ R3D, DJ Devvy, Chuckie Chingon, or DJ MF.
  • Album of the Year - Should have been Not Yet Obey, but we didn't qualify. Though there are lots of strong contenders, I feel that Cash Lansky's "Man of the House" has made the biggest impact.
  • Barber of the Year - Marky Chopz - I've worked with this dude on music and he always comes through. Stand up dude.
  • Hip Hop Group of the Year - Another Hard one, so many friends. Any of the following are winners: Hidden Hand, MasSyc, Hon3st Opinion
  • Female Artist of the Year - Another hard one, so many friends. Vote: S.Beezy, Sycness, Ill V, or Roux. Even beyond those listed, there are so many great options, it's hard to pick!
  • Lyricist of the Year - This is really the one I felt best suited for, but we didn't make it to the finals (Vote OBEY next year) - So many dope artists here, but my choice is based on the technical skill that goes into the content. That's multi syllable rhymes, double entendres, alliteration, flow, and substance. Those who are not very technical need not apply. Given this criteria, my top 2 are Citrus the Drunken Prophet & Tommy Will. Joey O is another great lyricist in the nominations. This isn't to say the others don't make amazing music, but when looking for the technical, I feel that my choices best represent my personal definition of lyricist when limited to those who made it to the finals.
